YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT CORPS
The American Red Cross Inland Northwest Chapter is proud to welcome high school-aged community members into a newly formed volunteer program, the Youth and Young Adult Corps. If you are interested in giving back to your community through service-learning projects, consider looking to the Red Cross’s Youth and Young Adult Corps!
Youth and Young Adult Corps members come together every other Thursday to share their experiences, train, and learn about new opportunities. Members have an array of opportunities to contribute to their community while developing valuable skills.
High school seniors have the opportunity to complete their Culminating Project through the Youth and Young Adult Corps.
Youth and Young Adult Corps members have the opportunity to be elected into leadership positions charged with overseeing the Corps along with the Red Cross Coordinator.
Specific Opportunities:
Senior Project Health and Safety Instructor
Student volunteers will receive training to become certified Red Cross Health and Safety instructors able to teach a variety of courses.
One- Hour Personal Disaster Preparedness Presenter
Learn the Red Cross Personal Disaster Preparedness curriculum and present the information to local 6th graders.
Disaster Services Volunteer
Train in disaster response to help those affected by such events as house fires.
Leadership Development Program
Train to present the Red Cross Leadership Development Program to groups of youth and young adults.
Exploring Humanitarian Law Presentation
High School student volunteers prepare a 15 - 30 minute report/lecture that they can present using notes on topics such as child soldiers in the world today, genocide in World War II, slavery in the world today, refugees from other parts of the world living in Spokane, or the human right to have access to clean water to drink. Students may give their presentations at any of the remaining Exploring Humanitarian Law classes.
Fundraising
Students can receive support when looking to develop a meaningful fundraiser for the Red Cross.
Community Events
The Red Cross often participates in community events and volunteers are needed to hand out emergency preparedness information.
Office help
We commonly have projects in the office that need to be done. If a volunteer is more comfortable working in the office, we can contact them when projects arise.
Join us every other Thursday from 6:30-7:30pm at the Red Cross Chapter at 315 W Nora Ave Spokane, WA 99205 for the Youth and Young Adult Corps meetings to learn more about the program.
